How these calculators fit together
Every quilt has four consumables that need sizing before you shop: binding, backing, batting, and border. These calculators handle each one independently — run them in any order, with your actual quilt dimensions, before you buy fabric.
The Binding Calculator and Backing Calculator are the two most commonly used. Almost every quilt needs both. The Batting Calculator is especially useful for its package-fit check — it tells you whether the batting you own is actually large enough once overage is added, which catches a very common pre-quilting mistake.
The HST Calculator is the most complex because it handles three construction methods with different formulas. If you are making any block with diagonal triangles — Pinwheels, Sawtooth Stars, Flying Geese — this is the one to bookmark.
Not sure what size to make your quilt? The Quilt Size Reference lists standard finished dimensions from Baby to King so you can pick your target size before running the other calculators.
